Moldovan actor, humorist celebrates 71 years of age

Chisinau, 18 January /MOLDPRES/ – The actor, director, humorist and writer Gheorghe Urschi, People's Artist, holder of the "Order of the Republic", nicknamed "the king of humor," celebrated 71 years ago.

Gheorghe Urschi was born in 1948 in village Cotiujenii Mari, Soldanesti district. In 1970, he graduated from the Theatre School Boris Shicukin in Moscow. He was actor at the Republican Theatre for Children and Youth Luceafărul. He starred in many theatre pieces and directed dozens of shows.

Over four decades of activity, Gheorghe Urschi has written books, signed several plays, film scenarios, and has performed numerous shows and concerts. He wrote plays: Mezinul (1979), Vom trăi și vom vedea (1986), Testamentul (1992), Testamentul – 2 (2001), Doi cocori, doua viori, Si iar Chirita! and a dozen pieces for children. Some of them he has directed and in others he has played.

Gheorghe Urschi is a member of the Theatrical Union (UTM) and the Writers' Union of Moldova (USM). She has published several volumes of novels: Dealul fetelor, Insula adolescentei, Baiatul cu ghitara, Cazuri si necazuri, Eu sar de pe fix, Scrieri alese in trei volume. He translated from Russian literature: M. Gorki, A. Vampilov, V. Astafiev, etc. He has written lyrics for several songs and composed several pieces of light music. He has also signed and directed three films: Cine arvoneste, acela plateste, Valeu, valeu, nu turna! and Fenta.

He also became famous due to television show: Teatru de miniaturi, as well as concerts held throughout the villages of Moldova together with Maria Urschi, Gheorghe Parlea, Doina and Ion Aldea – Teodorovici. According to singer Iurie Sadovnic, Gheorghe Urschi is a total artist which deserves the respect of everyone.

In June 2011, Gheorghe Urschi suffered a stroke, following a year of hospitalisation.

In 2008, Gheorghe Urschi was awarded the Order of the Republic and in 2012 he was awarded the title of People's Artist. In 2014, on his birthday, he became an honorary citizen of Chisinau. On 01 April 2018, he was honoured during a performance at the National Palace Nicolae Sulac, at his anniversary of 70 years of age.
