Chisinau, 12 October /MOLDPRES/ - Moldova will be able to buy electric energy from Romania at a price of 450 Romanian lei/MWh (about 90 euros/MWh), due to amendments to the legislation, made by the Romanian government today, following discussions with the Moldovan cabinet.

According to Deputy Prime Minister, Infrastructure and Regional Development Minister Andrei Spinu, Romania helps Moldova in a moment of ordeal for the country. ‘’The electric energy will have a lower price than the market prices and will provide the necessary quantity of 30 per cent which we cannot buy from Ukraine starting from 14 October. This is possible, as we managed the synchronization of our system to the European electric energy system back in last March,’’ Spinu said.

To come to the assistance of Moldova, the government of Romania approved an Emergency Ordinance, which sees that ‘’the producers of electric energy are obliged to conclude bilateral contracts, within the limit of the quantities available, as a priority, with traders/providers of electric energy nominated by Moldova’s government.’’ Under a decision by the Commission for Emergency Situations (CSE), Energocom is the company nominated.

The energy needed can be purchased, in case the producers from Romania have quantities available. ‘’Therefore, it is important and please, let us cut, in continuation, the consumption as much as we can. On 11 October, I saw a nice mobilization on behalf of the citizens to bring everybody the contribution to a lower consumption. Let us make this effort. This is for Moldova! Due to the spiritual openness and the warm support provided by Romania to our citizens, we know that we are not alone and we have a friend on whom we can count in situations of maximal emergency. Thank you, Romania!’’ Andrei Spinu said.
