Secretary General of the Government Alexei Buzu has had a string of bilateral meetings in Brussels with members of the European Parliament and officials of the European Commission, on the sidelines of the third meeting of the Working Group for Moldova of the European Committee of the Regions. The discussions focused on advancing the European integration process of Moldova, implementing reforms—with an emphasis on local public administration reform—and strengthening the administrative capacity of public institutions.

During the meetings with the Vice-Presidents of the European Parliament, Victor Negrescu and Nicu Stefanuta, as well as with MEP Siegfried Muresan, Alexei Buzu addressed topics related to the implementation of reforms, European support for Moldova and the future Multiannual Financial Framework of the European Union for the period 2028–2034.

The government’s secretary general also had discussions with European Commission officials, including Gert Jan Koopman, Director-General of the Directorate-General for Neighbourhood and Enlargement Negotiations (DG NEAR), as well as Christian Roques and Ilkka Salmi, Deputy Director-Generals in the Directorate-General for Human Resources and Security (DG HR) of the European Commission. The agenda of the meetings included the implementation of the Reform Agenda and the Growth Plan for Moldova, public administration reform and the support provided by the EU for the reforms currently underway.

The officials discussed the need to strengthen the administrative capacity for managing the process of accession to the European Union, enhancing the capacity to absorb European funds, digitizing public services and developing an efficient, professional and citizen-oriented public administration.

The participants in the discussions highlighted that public administration reform was an essential condition for speeding up Moldova’s European integration process. The sides also underlined the importance of sustainable European support for the implementation of structural reforms and for strengthening the state’s institutional resilience.

The meetings reconfirmed the support of European partners for Moldova’s reform agenda and for the continuation of the country’s European path.
