Moldova develops capacity of assessment, management of natural dangers. Citizens to receive message on mobile phones in emergencies
Chisinau, 9 October /MOLDPRES/ - Moldova will have a system of warning the citizens in emergency situations and natural calamities through mobile phones, government’s communication department has reported.
The project’s carrying out is a part of a string of actions meant to enhance the preparation and response of Moldova to emergency situations. The actions will be financed based on an Agreement between Moldova and the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD). The overall value of the Agreement is of 37.4 million euros.
Besides the implementation of the public warning system through mobile phones, intervention vehicles and equipment will be purchased with the resources available.
Also, the Agreement envisages the optimization of the hydro-meteorological services: the system of hydro-meteorological observation will be modernized; the capacities of forecast of the State Hydrometeorological Service will be improved and the institutional and regional cooperation in this segment will be consolidated.
„The extreme weather phenomena hit the entire world, including Moldova. We cannot avoid them, but we can be better prepared and manage them efficiently and minimize their consequences. The project will allow preparing the institutions for the quick response to emergency situations and will establish new regulations for reducing the risks at the level of the critical infrastructure,’’ Interior Minister Adrian Efros said.
Another component of the Agreement regards the optimization of the assessment and management of the natural dangers, of seismic risks and the climate-related ones.
Also, a new reserve fund for disasters will be created, as transparent and targeted source of financing for the attenuation of natural calamities’ consequences.
