
Moldovan parliament speaker meets president of OSCE Parliamentary Assembly
Chisinau, 20 April /MOLDPRES/ - Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu, along with MPs Vladimir Bolea and Ion Groza, today had a meeting with President of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly Margareta Cederfelt. Attending the event was Head of the OSCE Mission in Moldova Claus Neukirch, the parliament’s communication and public relations general department has reported.
The officials exchanged opinions on the evolution of the situation in Moldova, in the context of Russia’s invasion in Ukraine and the risks triggered by this invasion to the political, economic and humanitarian security.
In the context, Margareta Cederfelt highly appreciated Moldova’s effort, which assumed responsibility to host a large number of refugees, especially children, women, elderly people.
The parliament speaker reiterated the country’s commitment to further provide every needed support to Ukrainian citizens. ‘’We do our utmost for their social, educational integration, employment. We will continue helping them unreservedly,’’ Igor Grosu said.
The interlocutors discussed also the Transnistrian region. The parliament speaker stressed that Moldova’s authorities attentively monitored the developments in the country’s Transnistrian region.
”We expect the things to remain calm in continuation; it is important that all our citizens, no matter on which bank of Dniester they are, be in safety and their rights are observed,’’ the parliament speaker said.
Another subject tackled was the reforms’ agenda of Moldova.
”Beyond the extremely complicated situation triggered by Russia’s invasion in Ukraine, the atrocities of this war, the agenda of our country’s domestic policy stays the same. The combating of corruption, justice reform, consolidation of the institutions remain priority,’’ the parliament speaker noted.
Igor Grosu also informed about the development in the process of Moldova’s European integration, noting that the authorities were presently filling in the questionnaire on accession to EU.
