Moldovan president congratulates Gagauz community on 30th anniversary of foundation of Gagauz autonomy as part of Moldova
Chisinau, 23 December /MOLDPRES/ - President Maia Sandu has conveyed a congratulatory message to the Gagauz community, which marks the 30th anniversary of the Gagauz autonomy’s foundation, the presidential press service has reported.
„Three decades ago, Moldova’s parliament adopted a law for the preservation and development of the Gagauz identity, protection of the language and national culture. Honour and praise to the Gagauz who dedicate their lives to this goal!’’ the head of state said.
The Moldovan president stressed the importance of the unity and close cooperation for a prosperous future. ‘’We have been and we remain a country, no matter where we live: Comrat, Ceadar-Lunga, Soldanesti, Edinet or Ialoveni,’’ the head of state said, reaffirming the commitment of the central institutions for backing the Gagauz community.
President Maia Sandu drew attention to the need to promote and protect the Gagauz language and culture. ‘’In the Gagauz autonomy, the main emphasis must be put non on the promotion of the external geopolitical interests, but on the protection and promotion of the Gagauz language and culture for all Gagauz, including for those who are abroad. The Gagauz autonomy needs a programme of learning the Gagauz language.’’
The head of state: „Just as in any other family, there can be disagreements. But the most important thing is that the Moldovans regard the Gagauz as part of their family. And the Gagauz regard the Moldovans as part of their family. We are a whole and Moldova is our home.’’
