Moldovan president held online discussion with Georgian counterpart
Chisinau, 24 April /MOLDPRES/- President Maia Sandu spoke online yesterday with President of Georgia Salome Zourabichvili. The discussion focused on the functioning of democratic institutions in the two countries, the reform agenda and the fight against corruption, the presidential press service has reported.
"We talked about the fact that both Moldovan and Georgian citizens want to resolve the crises they face as soon as possible and democratic institutions to work for them. The fight against corruption and building a democratic, modern and European state is the only way we can make the changes expected by citizens, "said the head of state.
The officials exchanged views on the situation in the region. Maia Sandu stressed the importance of close cooperation in the Eastern Partnership between the Republic of Moldova, Georgia and Ukraine for European advancement and institution building. The head of state proposed drawing up a joint statement at the level of presidents on the future of the three countries in the context of the Eastern Partnership.
President Zourabichvili said that the signing of such a statement would be opportune at the summer conference in Batumi. At the same time, Maia Sandu voiced hope that the Eastern Partnership Summit will be organized this autumn and all issues can be discussed in Brussels.
