Petru Rotaru is new finance minister of Moldova
Chisinau, 28 September /MOLDPRES/ - The nominated Finance Minister, Petru Rotaru, today was sworn in office in the presence of President Maia Sandu. The decree on the appointment of Petru Rotaru was signed by the head of state on 27 September, just as the one on the resignation of Minister Veronica Sireteanu, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.
President Maia Sandu thanked Veronica Sireteanu for having managed to successfully manage the Finance Ministry on a period full of challenges. She voiced confidence that the new minister would continue the efforts of reducing the bureaucracy in the fiscal and customs sector.
„The expectations of the society and the business environment are quite clear: we want less bureaucracy for the honest business people and we want you to firmly act against those who try to make fiscal evasion and side-step the law. We want more transparency in the sphere of public procurements and management of the state’s resources,’’ Maia Sandu emphasized.
Petru Rotaru has worked in the financial and fiscal field starting from 2006, both in the private sector and in the public one. During 2010-2012, he led the Ialoveni State Fiscal Inspectorate and starting from last March, he has been holding the position of head of the State Fiscal Service. Finance Minister Petru Rotaru graduated from the Finance Faculty of the Academy of Economic Studies. At the same time, he has a degree of master in financial and fiscal law at this institution.
