Moldovan parliament speaker has meeting with delegation of BENELUX foreign affairs ministers

Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu has had a meeting with a delegation of foreign ministers from the BENELUX states, on a visit to Moldova. The delegation includes Luxembourg's Minister of Foreign and European Affairs, Xavier Bettel, Belgium's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Maxime Prévot and Director-General for European Cooperation of the Netherlands Heleen Bakker.

The discussions focused on various current subjects, such as cybersecurity, disinformation and information attacks, justice reform and combating corruption, strengthening the country's energy capacity, Moldova’s European integration, as well as the level of the authorities' preparation for organizing parliamentary elections.

During the talks, Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu expressed gratitude to the delegation members for their support, including through several programmes and emphasized the importance of boosting the cooperation to combat falsehoods and hybrid threats. At the same time, the speaker requested continued support for the reforms underway in Moldova, including justice reforms to enhance citizens' confidence in state institutions and achieve the expected outcomes. "We count on your help in continuation; we have a determined objective, and our project is one of peace, stability and prosperity in the European Union," said Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu.

For their part, the BENELUX foreign ministers' delegation members expressed openness to collaboration and appreciated the efforts of Moldova’s authorities to advance in different areas, proving transparency and the ability to manage crisis situations, including on the migration front. In the context, the officials referred to the support provided by Moldova to Ukrainian refugees amid the aggressive war between the Russian Federation and Ukraine.

The visit's agenda also included meetings with President Maia Sandu, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Mihai Popsoi, as well as visits to the Radeni Photovoltaic Park and the Digital Park, followed by a discussion with young people from Moldova. The visit was organized to strengthen the bilateral relations and deepen the multilateral cooperation between Moldova and the BENELUX states.
