PM says Moldova moves forward to become partner state for peace, prosperity of entire Europe
The priorities of the government and the role of Moldova in ensuring peace in the region have been the subjects discussed during a meeting between Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu and High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Vice President of the European Commission Kaja Kallas.
“We are ready to advance on the reforms’ agenda, not only from the perspective of EU accession, but because this is how we transform our state into a European, modern one, that provides welfare and social equity. Thanks to the constant support provided by the EU, we have become more resilient in terms of security and better prepared to face foreign interference and hybrid threats,” said Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu.
The officials emphasized the importance of Moldova's cooperation in the European Security and Defense Partnership, as our country is the first outside the EU to sign such an agreement, aiming to strengthen crisis management and cybersecurity capacities. At the same time, in the last 5 years, Moldova has received considerable assistance for modernizing its National Army within the European Peace Facility.
Prime Minister Munteanu also appreciated the extension, until 2027, of the EU Civil Partnership Mission in Chisinau. Moldova was the first country to benefit from quick response teams for hybrid threats, in order to strengthen institutions and democracy.
For her part, Kaja Kallas said that Moldova was part of the European security space and that the EU would continue to strengthen Moldova's resilience against hybrid threats and reinforce its defense capabilities, as this is an investment in the security of Europe.
