Sculeni border crossing point of Moldova to be modernized
Chisinau, 17 February /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilita has asked the Customs Service and Border Police to implement, till late next March, single control desks at the border crossing points, so that the traffic is eased and blockages are avoided. The PM today made statements to this effect at a visit to the Sculeni customs checkpoint, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.
The director of the Customs Service, Igor Talmazan, referred to the work of this customs checkpoint, employees’ problems, as well as to the project due to be implemented at the border crossing point, in order to solve the current infrastructure problems.
The head of the Border Police, Rosian Vasiloi, stressed that the new project was expected both by the employees of the customs checkpoint and drivers and passengers, contributing to Moldova’s adjusting to the European standards in the field.
Thus, the Sculeni border crossing point is to be extended and modernized within the project titled, Rehabilitation and modernization of the border customs offices at the Romania-Moldova border, customs checkpoints Albita-Leuseni, Sculeni-Sculeni and Giurgiulesti-Giurgiulesti. The project, with an overall value of 10 million euros, is financed by the European Union and co-financed by the two states. For the Sculeni customs checkpoint, the project sees the modernization of the administrative building, construction of new pavilions, increase in the number of customs control lanes, construction of the platform for scanning, rehabilitation of the water and sewerage supply systems.
The works at the Sculeni customs checkpoint started partially in 2018-2019; yet, they were carried out non-qualitatively, with serious infringements, which caused a damage worth about nine million lei to the Customs Service. At present, a new tender was started and the bids are made and the construction works are scheduled to be finished in 2023.
Natalia Gavrilita highlighted the importance of organizing transparent tenders and creating better conditions for the citizens who cross this customs checkpoint. Once the checkpoint is renovated, the customs control will be optimized and the traffic of goods and passengers will be eased. ‘’By investing in the infrastructure of this crossing point, we will improve the services provided to people. For us, the comfort of the citizens, as well as the efficient work of the state institutions represents a priority,’’ Natalia Gavrilita said.
