Prime Minister: We will review how members of state-owned enterprises’ boards of directors are appointed and remunerated
Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu today ordered a review of how members of the boards of directors of state-owned enterprises are appointed and remunerated. The official noted that every leu spent must be justifiable to citizens.
He requested that ministers present the situation of all representatives appointed to the boards of directors of state-owned enterprises: who they are, what activities they carry out, and what results they achieve.
“We will review how members of the boards of directors of state-owned enterprises are appointed and remunerated. I request all ministers to present the situation of all representatives appointed by the ministries: who they are, what activity they carry out, and what results they achieve. And I believe the main question is how professional and qualified they are for these boards,” said Munteanu at the beginning of today’s Government meeting.
The official stressed that these positions must be filled, first and foremost, by professionals, and that every leu spent must be justifiable to citizens.
“If there are people who know they can no longer meet these standards, or cannot justify their activity and remuneration, I recommend that they consider submitting an honourable resignation or doing so in another appropriate way. Trust in state institutions is built also through assuming responsibility. This is the main message,” emphasized Munteanu.
At the same time, the Prime Minister requested the suspension of the competition for selecting the director of Moldtelecom “until all issues that have arisen in the public space are clarified.”
Munteanu ordered the suspension of the promotion of the draft law on amending the method of calculating profit allocations from state-owned enterprises.
“As long as there are serious questions regarding the activity of Moldatsa and other state-owned enterprises, the Government will not change the rules on profit allocations. The rule is simple. First we verify, we put things in order, and only then do we approve. In the Government team there is room only for people of integrity and professionals. Those who cannot meet these standards must assume responsibility,” concluded Munteanu.
On this morning, President Maia Sandu announced a broad package of measures aimed at reforming the way management positions are filled, how state-owned enterprises are managed, and at strengthening control and integrity mechanisms.
