BREAKING NEWS // Veaceslav Platon arrested in the United Kingdom

Veaceslav Platon has been detained in the United Kingdom, based on a request by Prosecutor General's Office (PG) of Moldova, submitted on September 25, 2024. The information has been officially confirmed by the British authorities, who informed Moldova's PG about this arrest.

According to the Prosecutor General's Office, Moldovan prosecutors are currently cooperating with British authorities, in order to organize the necessary procedures for the extradition of Veaceslav Platon. He is expected to be presented before the law enforcement authorities of Moldova.

Veaceslav Platon is known for his involvement in various financial scandals. He left Moldova in the summer of 2021. He was acquitted in the case regarding the banking fraud, for which he had been sentenced to 18 years in prison. In late last February, anti-corruption prosecutors completed the presentation of evidence in Platon’s case. During court sessions, 10 witnesses were heard and a string of minutes and documents were examined.
