Chisinau city hall resists pressures on behalf of private public transport
Chisinau, 2 March /MOLDPRES/ - The Chisinau city hall will not accept the doubling of the travel fares and neither the providing of annual subsidies to private carriers, even if they cease working.
At a today’s meeting of the city hall’s services, the Chisinau deputy mayor, Ilie Ceban, said that the mini-busses of five public transport routes from the Chisinau city had ceased the activity of carrying passengers starting from 2 March. It is about the routes 108, 129 135, 175 and 178. Ceban added that, “despite these pressures, exerted on the city hall, the latter will not increase the travel fare and neither will it provide annual subsidies to the private carriers.”
Ilie Ceban also said that decision-makers of the Chisinau city hall would intervene where necessary. “We know what it is about; we will intervene promptly, depending on the reaction of the routes’ managers. The Urban Park of Buses and the Electric Transport Administration should know every hour all mini-bus which set out on routes and which are not doing so, so that we know where we can intervene,” Ceban noted.
On 24 February, more owners of mini-bus routes went on strike, thus protesting against the maintaining of the present travel fare. The managers of these routes demanded either doubling of the travel fares or annual subsidies on behalf of the local authorities.
