
International Day of Women in Science marked at Academy of Sciences of Moldova
Chisinau, 9 Feb. /MOLDPRES/- Researchers from Moldova, Germany, Romania and Ukraine participate in the third scientific conference dedicated to the International Day of Women in Science, held on February 9-10 at the Academy of Sciences of Moldova.
Liliana Condraticova, scientific secretary of AȘM, head of the organizing committee of the conference said that during the two days 210 communications will be presented in 14 sections.
AȘM head, academician Ion Tighineanu highly appreciated the activity of women in science and technology. "The very vast program of this year's conference shows us a multidisciplinary scientific event, where researchers from all fields of science have signed up, as evidenced by the 14 sections and panels, in which various problems of our times will be addressed. The most important is the call for peace, the condemnation of the war started by Russia in Ukraine, the restoration of the territorial integrity of the neighboring country, as well as the support of our course on the path of European integration", he said.
Tighineanu handed Ambassador of Ukraine to Moldova Marko Shevchenko the AȘM medal Nicolae Milescu Spătaru for contribution to the development of scientific collaboration between the two countries. For his part, the Ukrainian diplomat thanked the institution for granting this distinction. The Ukrainian official said that, if according to UNESCO data, 30 percent of researchers in the world are women, before the war, in Ukraine women in science constituted 46 percent. Also, he handed out awards to several women in science.
The International Day of Women and Girls in Science was set up by the UN General Assembly resolution of 22 December 2015 to recognize the important role of girls and women in science and technology. In the Republic of Moldova, this day is marked on February 11 since 2016.
