Moldovan authorities set to update regulation on placing street advertising
Chisinau, 9 October /MOLDPRES/- A regulation on placing outdoor advertising will be worked out by the authorities of the capital. Acting mayor of Chisinau Nistor Grozavu made the statement at a today’s meeting of the city hall.
Through this document, municipal authorities intend to reduce the number of outdoor billboards and regulate places where they may be located. Thus, the head of the municipal department of architecture, Sergiu Borozan, asked the management of the city hall not to authorize the installation of new devices for street advertising, and the existing authorizations would be extended by one year until the new regulation is finalized and a new advertising law approved.
“We will not give up street advertising, but we will opt for placement of panels that fit into the general concept of the city. The regulation will specify the places where the billboards can be placed and then they will be auctioned”, Borozan said.
For his part, Grozavu noted that the initiative to work out a new regulation comes from a group of economic agents providing street advertising services. “The document will set the way for street advertising to ensure road safety, pedestrian safety and the city’s aesthetic appearance. There is a regulation in 2011, but it has several gaps and needs to be updated. Economic agents must understand that nobody can come to place an advertising bill anywhere”, Grozavu said.
A draft decision related to the approval of the regulation on billboards in the capital will be subject to public debates in the next 2-3 weeks and then will be submitted for approval to the Chisinau municipal council.
According to data by the Chisinau city hall, in 2012-2017, over 1,400 billboards were dismantled in the capital.
