New trolley bus route launched in Moldovan capital
Chisinau, 21 July /MOLDPRES/ - The Chisinau city hall today launched the trolley bus route No 28, which makes connection between the Posta Veche (Old Post) district and the Botanica district.
The acting head of the public transport and communication means general department, Vitalie Mihalache, said the city hall had spent eight million 300,000 lei for the construction of a new electricity contact network necessary for the movement of trolley buses and that parking had been banned on a segment of two km of the Columna Street. ‘’We had more requests on behalf of the residents of the Old Post district to start another trolley bus route, which would ease their movement to the centre of the city and Botanica district.’’ Mihalache said.
Attending the event, the Chisinau general mayor, Ion Ceban, said the route for the movement of trolley buses on the Columna Street was meant to provide an alternative to the public transport, if the traffic is suspended on the Great National Assembly Square. The mayor noted that he was aware of the obstacles due to appear in traffic for vehicles’ drivers, but ‘’the public transport must have priority.’’
Ceban also said that the road traffic was overcrowded in the Chisinau city. ’’As many as 400,000 vehicles daily move in the city, while the capacity of road easing is of only 90,000 vehicles.’’ ‘’The public transport should have priority, especially when the Chisinau residents demand this,’’ the mayor stressed.
