Over 600 lyceum pupils of Moldova to help middle school graduates prepare for math exam

Over 600 11th- and 12th-grade pupils fond of mathematics will become mentors for middle school graduates and help them prepare for the math exam. The initiative takes place within the Math Peer to Peer Campaign, now at its second edition, launched by the Education and Research Ministry (MEC), in partnership with the National Agency for Curriculum and Assessment (ANCE).

The programme aims to strengthen math competencies, reduce exam-related anxiety and increase the exam pass rate. The initiative is implemented with the support of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and the UN Development Programme (UNDP).

Pupils interested in becoming mentors can register by completing the participation form between February 9 and February 23, which is sent to educational institutions through local education authorities. The selection will be carried out by a commission made up of representatives of MEC and ANCE, with the involvement of educational institutions.

Throughout the campaign, pupil-mentors will benefit from training sessions and will be evaluated based on their engagement, the activities carried out and their reflection on their educational path. The most active participants will have the opportunity to attend an educational summer camp.

“The ‘Math Peer to Peer’ Campaign means more than just preparation for exam. It is about the courage to say ‘let’s solve this together,’ about pupils who use their knowledge to help other students gain confidence in themselves. Through this model, learning becomes more accessible, more friendly and more effective, and the sup[port between peers matters a lot,” said Lilia Ivanov, Director of the National Agency for Curriculum and Assessment.

To support this educational model, the campaign provides pupils with additional learning materials, including video lessons prepared by math teachers, live-streaming sessions and practice tests. All resources are available on the platform www.ajutauncoleg.md.

The first edition of the Math Peer to Peer Campaign took place last year.
