Prosecutor General: 2025 elections won't be easy in terms of voter corruption
Chisinau, Dec. 12 /MOLDPRES/- Prosecutor General Ion Munteanu today presented a report to parliament on electoral corruption. He said that the electoral exercise in 2025 will not be simple and the methods applied to corrupt voters are much more sophisticated, with cryptocurrency and new applications being used.
The official spoke to lawmakers about bank transfers, which are not even functional on the territory of Moldova. He said that cryptocurrency is already being used massively to corrupt voters, and cash, which used to arrive by air or land, will be used less and less.
Munteanu noted that 84 criminal cases have been opened in October alone, which concern offenses related to the electoral process, including 70 for electoral corruption, one case concerning the falsification of voting results and three other cases concerning offenses related to the violation of the way of managing the financial means of political parties or electoral funds.
The heads of CNA and SIS are also expected to report to Parliament.
