State University of Moldova celebrates 75th anniversary
Chisinau, 2 October /MOLDPRES/- The State University of Moldova (USM) marks 75 years since its founding in early October. On this occasion, the Senate of the institution met yesterday in a solemn sitting.
During the meeting, USM rector Igor Sharov presented the Activity Report of the university, talking about development prospects and educational strategies, highlighting the merit of the academic community that contributed to the performance. At the same time, the rector also referred to the institutional collaboration partnerships of the university, supported by the country's leadership, by the development partners of the institution, by the associations of former graduates, etc.
"If I think about it, it was not the walls that made the University, but you, those before you and those who will follow you. I express all my gratitude and consideration for honoring my obligations, for working with selflessness and dedication, for the responsibility you show every day. You add value to our country. I am honored to be part of the exceptional faculty, which has maintained its place in the scientific and pedagogical elite of the country. I am proud to be the rector of the most prestigious higher education institution in the country - the State University of Moldova. Happy birthday, USM!”, he said.
Attending the event, Speaker Igor Grosu, a graduate of USM, said that it is an honor to be at the university on the anniversary hour. "It is an honor to be here, because I actually returned home to participate in this important event dedicated to the celebration of the 75th anniversary of the founding of the most prestigious higher education institution in the country." He awarded the State University of Moldova the Medal of Democracy, the highest distinction of the legislative body.
Anatolie Topală, Minister of Education and Research appreciated the good collaboration between the institution she leads and USM. "I return to Alma Mater with great joy. I feel a special sense of pride for the institution that formed me and where I worked for many years in a row. I send a message of appreciation for the perfect educational activity that you carry out with a lot of inspiration and dedication. Let's join forces to offer students high-performance studies ", Topala said.
The minister also awarded the MEC Honorary Diploma to a group of USM professors and researchers.
An important moment of the anniversary was the presentation of the anniversary envelope with a fixed stamp elaborated by Moldovan Post Office. Roman Cojuhari, acting director of the institution, said that a unique series of one thousand envelopes was issued.
On October 23, 1944, the Decision of the Soviet of People's Commissioners "On the organization of the State University of Moldova" was adopted, and a year later, on October 12, 1945, a Decision of the Soviet of People's Commissioners of the USSR was adopted. the measures regarding the granting of the aid for the development of the works of first importance in order to restore the city of Chisinau ".
Subsequently, on March 4, 1946, the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Moldova and the Soviet of People's Commissars adopted the Decision "On the founding of the State University of Moldova", specifying the faculties, departments, laboratories to be opened. The creation of the necessary material base was also foreseen. Consequently, on October 1, 1946, the State University of Moldova began its activity.
