Chisinau, 2 June /MOLDPRES/ - Time is Ripe for Nature! is the title of an information campaign, launched by the Agriculture, Regional Development and Environment Ministry (MADRM) this week, in the context the World Environment Day, yearly marked on 5 June.

The subjects of the event from this year represent the biodiversity – an appeal of actions for combating the speeding up and degradation of species in the natural world. One million species of plants and animals run the risk of extinguishing, mostly because of human activities.

Within the information week, MADRM and the subordinated subdivisions will distribute public interest information on the importance of the biodiversity for the people’s good condition, as it provides services which back the society’s economy. Also, informative press releases will be issued on initiatives and projects on environmental protection and human resources, diminishing the impact and consequences of natural calamities, actions supported, including financially, by development partners and international organizations.

At the same time, a video clip on topics from this year will be broadcast on 5 June. The video clip is made with the support of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Moldova and the Small Grants Programme of the Global Environment Facility, in order to inform and raise the awareness of the public in this respect.

„The Environment Day is an extra occasion for the mankind to be aware that everything it consumers: food products, air, water – all these come from the Nature. We urge you that we assess our behavior towards the environment, become better with the nature and be aware that the mankind’s essential role is to support life on Earth,’’ reads a communiqué of the competent ministry.

At the same time, MADRM informs that, in the context of the epidemiological situation in Moldova, as well as in order not to allow the appearance of the risk of falling ill with COVID-19, no public events dedicated to the environmental protection will be organized in 2020.

The World Environment Day was established on 5 June by the United Nations General Assembly, in order to mark the United Nations Conference on the Human Environment, held in Stockholm, and represents the most important element of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). The event is marked in over 100 countries and represents an occasion for governmental institutions, local administrations, young people’s associations, non-governmental organizations, entrepreneurs, mass media to mobilize through joint manifestations, meant to attract attention to the need to protect the environment factors.
