Talmaza village builds green corner for future: How residents transforming neglected space into community area

Residents of a neighborhood in Talmaza village, Ștefan Vodă district, have turned a neglected land into a green oasis by planting dozens of linden and chestnut saplings, in a community initiative coordinated by EcoContact team and local volunteers.

In a community mobilization effort, the residents of "La Bazin" neighborhood in the village of Talmaza came together to transform a previously neglected space into a green and welcoming area.

According to EcoContact, neighborhood residents actively participated in planting the linden and chestnut saplings, carefully brought from the forest, and the preparation of the planting holes was executed with precision.

"It is important for this place to become a space where people feel good and gather together. For children to have a place to run and play, and for adults to enjoy a clean and healthy environment," they said.

Among the participants was Nicolae, a young man who grew up in the neighborhood and returned specifically from Norway to join the initiative.

"I have childhood photos of this place, which was full of garbage. Now we want to transform it into a green space for our children and the entire community," he said.

All age groups were involved in the activity, and each participant contributed to transporting the soil, planting the saplings, and arranging the surrounding areas.

The initiative in Talmaza is an example of civic engagement and environmental responsibility, showing how joint efforts can transform unused spaces into useful and pleasant places for the community.

The activity was carried out as part of the project Improving the management of protected areas in the Republic of Moldova through institutional development, capacity building, and habitat restoration, implemented within the International Partnerships Austria, supported by the Austrian Development Agency (ADA), and carried out by Biotica Ecological Society and EcoContact.
