Chisinau, Nov 8 /MOLDPRES/- Over 100 households with about 400 inhabitants in Camencea village, Donici commune, Orhei district, which were facing an acute shortage of water will have access to drinking water on tap. This is possible after some 11 km of aqueduct networks, two water reservoirs and a water treatment plant were built in the village. The works were carried out under the European Village program.

The project also provided for the installation of 104 individual connections, and after its implementation, the number of Camencea residents who have access to drinking water on tap has increased to 1,250. At the same time, the village gymnasium and kindergarten, as well as two local economic agents have been connected to the drinking water supply network.

According to Donici mayor Serghei Guzun, the project is vital for the inhabitants of Camencea, especially those in the northern part of the village, who were constantly facing an acute water shortage. As the groundwater is very deep, many villagers who tried to build wells gave up because of the exorbitant cost. So they often had to travel long distances to village wells where they could find water, or buy it from shops. But now things have changed. Thanks to this project, the entire northern part of the village has been connected to the drinking water network," said the mayor.

Camencea has also been selected for the second edition of the European Village program and will implement a project that will extend the water network and build connections for another 200 households in the village.

Government through the National Fund for Regional and Local Development has allocated 6.47 million lei for the first project. The estimated cost of the second project, which foresees the extension of the water supply system and the construction of a sewage network in Camencea, due to be implemented through the European Village program, second edition, is 9.5 million lei.
