Mayor of Moldova's Cahul city reads 101 books during one year

The mayor of Cahul municipality, Nicolae Dandis, promotes reading and encourages young people to read by setting an example himself. The mayor presented 101 books he managed to read in 2025 and said that a string of actions would be organized in the municipality to promote reading.

After reading over 100 books and numerous articles from specialized journals, Nicolae Dandis selected more titles he wishes to read this year, the first being The Power of Self-Confidence by Brian Tracy.

"I was asked how many books I've read in 2025. I picked 101 - that's what I managed. With a busy work schedule and family time, I managed to read these books. If I include the dozens of articles from specialized journals, more topic-related articles from networks, it's not that bad, although I have so many books I wish I could have read or reread, but that's for 2026. Unfortunately, as Schopenhauer said - 'In bookstores where books are sold, the time to read them is not for sale,'" Nicolae Dandis noted.

The mayor informed that, this year, the Cahul Youth Center would organize more events to promote reading, being confident that "there is no more loyal friend than books."

"Jack Canfield said that: 'There are two essential things that will make you wise - the books you read and the people you meet,' and Ernest Hemingway said that 'There is no more loyal friend than books.' In 2026, let's make as many friends as possible," Nicolae Dandis said.

In Moldova, National Reading Day is annually marked on February 14, being an important initiative to promote reading. On this day, we also celebrate the birth of the great poet Grigore Vieru, to encourage reading and the culture of knowledge at all ages.

On this occasion, the Culture Ministry organizes the National Reading Campaign annually. This year, the campaign is at its third edition and will take place on February 14. The campaign aims to make reading a habit among all people and age groups - a key skill for lifelong learning.
