DOC // Order on new classification of public roads by load-bearing capacity published in Official Journal
The Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development (MIDR) has approved the updated list of national public roads, classified by load-bearing capacity, i.e., the resistance of the road structure to the loads exerted by vehicles. The document, published today in the Official Journal, establishes uniform standards for managing and maintaining the road network at national and local levels.
According to the order, the classification was developed based on Annex No. 2 of the Road Law No. 509/1995 and the Regulation on the organization and functioning of MIDR, approved by Government Decision No. 690/2017. According to the new provisions, the list of national public roads classified by load-bearing capacity is attached to the order, while local roads will be evaluated and classified by local road administrators by December 31, 2025.
Additionally, information on classification and road segments will be published on the official websites of the road administrators to ensure transparency and public access to data.
The classification will be updated annually, by March 31, as well as in cases where temporary traffic restrictions are imposed, with all changes to be communicated to the public officially.
The responsibility for executing the order lies with the state secretary responsible for the road infrastructure domain, and the document comes into effect on the date of publication in the Official Journal of the Republic of Moldova. Through this decision, MIDR aims to improve road infrastructure management, facilitate the planning of repair and maintenance works, and ensure a sustainable and safe use of the road network in the Republic of Moldova.
