UPDATE 10:50 // Traffic of heavy vehicles temporarily suspended on Căușeni – Anenii Noi route

UPDATE, 10:50 a.m.

Traffic of heavy vehicles is temporarily suspended on route R-30 (Căușeni – Anenii Noi).

Initial report

The National Road Administration (AND) announces that at this time, several regions of the Republic of Moldova are experiencing heavy snowfall, and traffic conditions are changing rapidly from hour to hour. The authorities warn that road traffic is taking place in winter conditions, with slippery carriageways and reduced visibility, especially on open routes and in areas affected by wind.

In this context, truck traffic has been temporarily suspended on several national road sections in the south and center of the country: road R34, kilometers 130 – 180+600, Cahul – Giurgiulești section; road M3, kilometers 139 – 213, Balabanu – Giurgiulești section; road R34.3, kilometers 0 – 11.7, Hâncești – Sărata Galbenă section.

“Restrictions have been imposed to prevent blockages and accidents, given the rapid accumulation of snow and the formation of ice. Across the entire national road network, 80 special vehicles and 89 road workers are deployed in the north, center, and south of the country. The interventions target both the main arteries with heavy traffic and regional roads. The teams are carrying out snow-clearing works and combating slipperiness by spreading anti-skid materials,” explains AND.

The meteorological services have issued Yellow and Orange weather warnings for the day, with forecasts of snow, sleet and strong wind. Under these conditions, visibility may decrease significantly, and road travel may become difficult, especially at night or in open-field areas.

The National Road Administration recommends that drivers avoid non-essential travel, especially over long distances, adapt their speed to road conditions, keep a safe distance between vehicles, and follow the instructions of the police and road maintenance workers. Drivers are also urged to use winter tires only and to obtain information in advance about road conditions before setting off.

The authorities state that intervention teams remain permanently on standby to maintain traffic safety and will intervene whenever the situation requires.
