Free Romanian language courses: MEC opened registration
Over 8,500 people will benefit in 2026 from free Romanian language courses, funded from the state budget. Registrations have been opened by the Ministry of Education and Research (MEC). The lessons will start in March.
The courses are organized within the National Program for Learning the Romanian Language for 2026–2028, currently under approval and now in its third edition. Registration is done online at: https://bit.ly/3MkISX3
The courses are open to adults who have not studied or do not sufficiently know the Romanian language; representatives of national minorities; employees in the public sector and in other professional fields who need to strengthen their Romanian language communication skills; people returning from the diaspora; refugees and other displaced persons who are temporarily or permanently settled in the Republic of Moldova; as well as other categories of people interested in improving their level of language competence.
The courses are held both in person and online. Teaching activities are carried out by a consortium made up of Alecu Russo State University of Bălți, Moldova State University and Ion Creangă State Pedagogical University, together with the NGOs ANTEM, the Romanian Language House “Nichita Stănescu”, and ProDidactica.
Participants receive printed textbooks, available for rental at affordable costs. At the end of the courses, they receive a certificate attesting their language proficiency level, in accordance with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.
The National Program for Learning the Romanian Language contributes to the development of language skills and to facilitating the social and professional integration of participants, while strengthening social cohesion and equitable access to quality education. In previous editions, approximately 25,000 beneficiaries took part in the free Romanian language courses, confirming the impact and relevance of the program.
