Employees to be able to receive holiday vouchers
Employees will be able to receive holiday vouchers. The nominal value will be up to half of the average monthly salary per economy. The regulation on how holiday vouchers will operate was approved today by the Government.
Granting the vouchers is optional and is done on the basis of an act issued by the head of the entity. The granting conditions are established by the employer through internal regulations.
The validity period of the voucher is one year. They will be granted through authorized operators, who will be registered in a Register of the National Tourism Office, and the money can be used only in accredited tourist accommodation structures in rural areas.
Minister of Culture Cristian Jardan said at the cabinet meeting that by granting holiday vouchers, the authorities aim to increase the number of tourists who choose to spend their holidays in guesthouses in the country.
“In recent years, we have had a constant increase in the number of tourists in our country, but this growth is based more on tourists from abroad. We want to stimulate domestic tourism as well. In the summer, the concept of holiday vouchers was introduced, and now we are coming with the mechanism through which it can be used. It is financial support worth up to half of the average salary in the economy. It is not a taxable item for either the employer or the employee. Beneficiaries will be able to pay with these vouchers for tourist packages that must include accommodation and at least one other tourist service. Through this mechanism, we want to encourage people to spend their holidays as much as possible at home and to support rural tourist guesthouses,” said Cristian Jardan.
According to the decision approved by the Government, the selection of holiday voucher beneficiaries is carried out in an objective and non-discriminatory manner, depending on the financial means allocated by the employer.
When selecting the beneficiaries of holiday vouchers, the following minimum criteria apply: performance level, not having received holiday vouchers in the previous reference period, and the level of working time, proportional to the actual time worked.
