Students in several localities holding online classes today
Educational institutions in Chișinău, Taraclia, Cahul and Călărași are holding classes online today. Another 751 institutions are operating as usual with physical attendance.
The decision to conduct online lessons was taken by the local specialized education authorities and level II local public authorities.
The Ministry of Education and Research emphasized that local public authorities and educational institutions will assess the situation in the coming days and will make decisions that ensure and protect the safety of children, teaching staff, and school personnel.
On the evening of Tuesday, February 17, MEC announced that education departments, in cooperation with level II local public authorities, may independently decide to organize online classes for Wednesday, February 18, 2026, in the context of severe weather conditions.
According to the State Hydrometeorological Service, until 20:00 today, heavy snowfall and strengthening winds with speeds of up to 15–20 m/s are forecast across the country. As a result, blizzard conditions are expected, with snowdrifts forming and visibility significantly reduced. Roads will become icy, and in some areas sleet and glaze ice will be reported.
