USAID announced new resilience project for Moldova
Chisinau, Oct. 7 /MOLDPRES/- The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) announced today a new investment of 50 million dollars to contribute to expanding the rural economy of the Republic of Moldova and strengthening resilience to the invasion of Ukraine, a situation that restricts Moldovan exports and threatens the economic prosperity of the country.
Through the new Rural Resilience Project, USAID will continue to provide support to increase sales and profitability in the Moldovan agricultural sector and drive growth opportunities in Moldova, according to the US agency.
"Over a five-year period, the project will provide support to partners and products that have the potential to transform the economy and boost rural communities. It will facilitate connections between key agricultural value chains such as fruit, organic produce, vegetables, honey and wine. Also, the project will increase productivity, improve the sustainability of the agricultural sector, boost private sector investments and partnerships and promote reforms that will generate the profitability of agricultural activity in the Republic of Moldova. It will bring numerous benefits to rural communities and contribute to the relaunch of Moldovan tourism, which is suffering from the residual effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, and currently from the Russian invasion of Ukraine," USAID said.
The proejct is implemented by Chemonics International in partnership with local and international organizations. Additional partners will be recruited to support workforce development, agricultural education and research institutions, local NGOs and agricultural associations and the Moldovan government. The project's total value is 50 million dollars.
