Moldova - EU Association Agreement enters into force
Chisinau, July 1 /MOLDPRES/ - The Association Agreement between Moldova, on one hand, and the European Union and the European Atomic Energy Community and its Member States, on the other hand, signed in Brussels on 27 June 2014, entered into force today. The entry into force of the Agreement signifies the completion of its ratification by the signatory sides and, respectively, full enforcement of all its provisions, the Foreign and European Integration Ministry's information and media communication service has reported.
According to Article 456 of the Association Agreement, starting from 1 July 2016, the agreement fully repeals and replaces the Partnership and Cooperation Agreement between the European Communities and their Member States, on the one hand, and the Republic of Moldova, on the other hand, signed in Brussels on 28 November 1994, and which entered into force on 1 July 1998. References to the Partnership and Cooperation Agreement, which is provided for in all other agreements between the Association Agreement sides, are construed as references to the Association Agreement.
Similarly, beginning with 1 July 2016, the Association Agreement replaces the Agreement between the European Union and Moldova on the protection of trademarks and geographical indications for agricultural products and foodstuffs, signed in Brussels on 26 June 2012, which entered into force on 1 April 2013.
