Moldovan, French presidents approach peace in Europe, Moldova's accession to European Union, Moldovan-French projects
Peace in Europe, Moldova's accession to the European Union and Moldovan-French projects were the main issues of a meeting between President Maia Sandu and French President Emmanuel Macron. The Head of State is on a working visit to Paris on March 10-11, at the invitation of her French counterpart. The meeting at Élysée Palace reaffirmed France's firm support for Moldova's security, its European path and the development projects carried out with French assistance, with direct benefits for citizens.
“In these difficult times, France stands by our side – supporting us to protect our peace, strengthen our security and move closer to the European Union. We share the vision of a united and strong Europe, where each country can freely decide its future,” said Maia Sandu.
During the meeting, Moldova and France signed three important agreements:
-
Social protection agreement – guarantees clear rights for Moldovans working and living in France, facilitating access to pensions, social and health services and offering more security for the Moldovan diaspora.
-
Financing agreement with the French Development Agency (AFD) – a 30 million euro support to improve energy efficiency in public buildings, helping reduce energy consumption and bills.
-
Strategic partnership to combat disinformation – between the Centre for Strategic Communication and Combating Disinformation and VIGINUM, aimed at helping to protect Moldova’s informational space and counter external manipulation.
The two presidents also discussed the security situation in the region, the impact of the war in Ukraine on Moldova, and the economic cooperation between the two countries. Macron reaffirmed France's commitment to support Moldova in joining the European Union, noting that the future of our country is in Europe.
