Parliament speaker attends funerals of famous Moldovan artist
Chisinau, 17 September /MOLDPRES/ - Hundreds of fans today paid the last tribute to the departed actor, Maestro Mihai Volontir at the Nicolae Sulac National Palace, the parliament's communication and public relations department has reported.
Attending the funerals were Parliament Speaker Andrian Candu, Moldova's leadership, former Moldovan President Mircea Snegur, as well as well-known culture and art personalities.
„I would like to talk about maestro Mihai Volontir in the present tense, as he is the one who dedicated more than 40 years to the stage and played over 120 roles in theatre and movies, known and appreciated worldwide. Mihai Volontir will always remain with us through his art and life. Today, a star goes up to the sky, the star is Mihai Volontir,” Candu said.
The coffin with the body of Mihai Volontir was brought to the hall of Nicolae Sulac National Palace. Subsequently, the coffin was brought to the Central Cemetery on the Armeneasca street.
Under a decree by President Nicolae Timofti, all flags flew half-mast all over Moldova on 17 September.
Born on 9 March 1934, in Glinjeni village, northern Soldanesti district, Mihai Volontir is considered one of the biggest artists of the national culture. MP in the first parliament of Moldova and signatory of the Declaration of Independence, Mihai Volontir was not only a famous artist by vocation, but also a true patriot, being devoted to his national roots to his last breath.
