On 1 July 2026, Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration Valeriu Chiveri held a meeting with Audronė Perkauskienė, EU Representative for the Transnistrian settlement process, Deputy Director-General for Eastern Europe and Central Asia within the European External Action Service, accompanied by the Head of the Delegation of the European Union to the Republic of Moldova, Iwona Piórko.

The dialogue focused on the current state of the settlement process, the implementation of the country’s reintegration policies, as well as the measures taken by the authorities in Chisinau to address the most urgent and important problems faced by citizens on both banks of the Dniester River. In this regard, the opportunities arising from the implementation of the Convergence Fund mechanisms were highlighted.

During the discussions, the alarming human rights situation in the Transnistrian region was addressed, with a special focus on the release of citizens of the Republic of Moldova who are being illegally detained and on the annulment of the grounds for their abusive persecution, as well as on the removal of artificial obstacles to free movement in the region, including through the dismantling of the infrastructure of unauthorized control posts within the Security Zone.

The Deputy Prime Minister recalled that Tiraspol has not resolved a number of problems faced by schools in the region. In particular, he stressed the need to provide Romanian-language educational institutions with their own premises, as well as the importance of introducing studies in Romanian in other Moldovan schools in the eastern districts.

Thanks were also expressed for the firm and constant support provided to the Republic of Moldova by the European Union, which substantially contributes to advancing the country’s reintegration policies, increasing their attractiveness and support among residents of the eastern districts, as well as strengthening societal resilience and the country’s institutional system in the face of externally generated hybrid risks.

In conclusion, the officials underlined the importance of continuing dialogue and mutual coordination in order to advance the process of a final settlement, in the spirit of reintegration policies and the removal of all barriers between the two banks of the Dniester River.
