The programs implemented in the Republic of Moldova with the support of the World Bank, as well as the reform priorities in the context of our country’s European integration process were discussed at a meeting between Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu and World Bank Regional Country Director for Eastern Europe Robert Saum.

The officials reviewed the status of ongoing projects, including those aimed at modernizing the agri-food sector and aligning it with European Union standards. In this context, they mentioned the processing plant for animal by-products not intended for human consumption, built near Criuleni under Competitive Agriculture in Moldova Project. The new infrastructure will help strengthen food safety, protect the environment, and reduce risks to public health.

Energy sector projects were also discussed, including preparations for the construction of a new 250 MW cogeneration plant and the completion of works on the 400 kV Vulcănești–Chișinău power line. These projects are important for strengthening energy security and modernizing national infrastructure.

Another topic addressed was tax reform and the measures needed to consolidate the sustainability of public finances. The parties discussed the technical assistance that the World Bank can provide in assessing the impact of reforms, phasing in tax changes, and analyzing compensatory measures so that they contribute to increasing the real incomes of the population.

During the meeting, the officials also referred to the digitalization agenda, with a focus on strengthening cybersecurity capacities and combating telephone and online fraud.

The parties also discussed preparations for the new Country Partnership Framework with the Republic of Moldova for 2027–2031, which will support shared priorities regarding poverty reduction, boosting economic growth, and bringing the country closer to European Union standards.
