Moldovan president at General Assembly of Judges says common goal reestablishment of trust in justice
President Maia Sandu today attended the General Assembly of Judges, where she gave a speech discussing judicial reforms, the results of the extraordinary external evaluation of judges and the importance of a functional justice system for Moldova's European path.
"We all have a common goal: restoring trust in justice. This trust cannot be imposed by law alone – it must be earned daily, through correct deeds, decisions, through behavior," said President Maia Sandu.
Referring to the extraordinary external evaluation, the head of state emphasized that the process, although complex and sometimes difficult, was necessary to ensure real change in the judiciary. "Looking back, we can confidently say it was worth it. Despite resistance on behalf of parts of the system, we managed to pave the way for real change," added President Maia Sandu.
At the same time, the head of state thanked the judges, who, against the backdrop of unprecedented attacks on our democracy, had adopted decisions on electoral corruption cases. She noted that such examples gave hope that Moldova can combat corruption and resist foreign influences.
In conclusion, the Moldovan president said that, in order to successfully complete judicial reform, in addition to political will and support from international partners, Moldova needed the moral and professional commitment of all those involved in the act of justice.
