Diplomatic relations between Moldova and China on rise: high-potential development areas on authorities’ agenda
China is one of the most important economic partners of the Republic of Moldova in the Asian region, and the authorities in Chișinău and Beijing are seeking to expand cooperation in areas with significant development potential, including trade, investment, agriculture, infrastructure, education, culture, and tourism. The statements were made by new Ambassador of the Republic of Moldova to China Petru Frunze in an interview for MOLDPRES.
The official emphasized that the bilateral relations between the Republic of Moldova and China have steadily developed over the years, based on the principles of mutual respect, sovereignty, and territorial integrity.
“Over the 34 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Republic of Moldova and the People’s Republic of China, our countries have maintained a stable, constructive, and results-oriented political dialogue. Bilateral relations have developed consistently on the basis of the principles of mutual respect, sovereignty, and territorial integrity,” the Ambassador said.
At present, the relationship between Chișinău and Beijing can be characterized as one of friendship and pragmatic cooperation, with significant development potential in multiple areas, according to the head of the diplomatic mission of the Republic of Moldova in Beijing.
“China is one of the most important economic partners of the Republic of Moldova in the Asian region, and the dialogue between the institutions of our states is conducted in an atmosphere of respect and openness,” he underlined.
According to the Ambassador, there is mutual interest in deepening cooperation in fields such as trade, investment, agriculture, infrastructure, education, culture, tourism, and people-to-people exchanges.
“There are important opportunities for further strengthening bilateral relations. Our objective is to harness this potential for the benefit of citizens and the business communities of both countries, thus contributing to the development of sustainable and mutually beneficial cooperation,” Petru Frunze concluded.
Diplomatic relations between the Republic of Moldova and the People’s Republic of China were established on January 30, 1992. The bilateral legal framework includes 61 signed agreements in areas such as trade and economic cooperation, mutual protection of investments, avoidance of double taxation on income and capital, air services, consular affairs, youth, education, tourism, health, culture, etc., as well as five draft agreements.
