Moldovan parliament turns down motion of censure on policies of Infrastructure and Regional Development Ministry
The parliament has not support the motion of censure against the policies of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development (MIDR), considered at the today's plenary meeting. The motion was put forward by 24 MPs of the parliamentary faction of the Bloc of Communists and Socialists (BCS).
Reasons Cited by the Authors of the Motion
Among the reasons cited by the authors for expressing their vote of no confidence are the poor administration of the areas under the ministry's responsibility, the lack of concrete actions to respond to current challenges, as well as delays from the established deadlines in the implementation of nationally important projects regarding water and sanitation supply, as well as in national and international road infrastructure.
MIDR’s Achievements Unveiled by Deputy Prime Minister Vladimir Bolea
Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development Vladimir Bolea presented the main achievements from the period 2022–2024, highlighting the progress made in areas essential for community development. According to the minister, within the European Village I programme, 1.7 billion lei was allocated for the carrying out of 495 completed projects. Also, over 576 kilometers of roads were rehabilitated with external funds, over 837 kilometers of water supply networks, and 180 kilometers of sewer networks were built and extended. About 160 thousand citizens were connected to potable water systems and around 129 thousand were connected, for the first time, to the sewer system.
On the same period, through the Road Fund, over 600 kilometers of roads were rehabilitated with a total investment of 2.8 billion lei. At the same time, 435 kilometers of public street lighting were implemented and 197 social and educational institutions were modernized. Also, over 40 thousand households from 27 districts are set to be connected to water and sewerage through regional projects, currently underway in Ungheni, Cahul, Rascani, Soroca, Edinet, Comrat, Floresti, Calarasi, etc.
Also, the minister mentioned that, through the Express European Village programme, 380 local development projects had been implemented and the European Village II programme allowed for over 800 projects to currently be in the active implementation phase or the contracting phase.
"We have built roads, bridges, highways, water and sewer networks, public transport and investments in sustainable energy. We launched the most ambitious local development program –European Village, which reached hundreds of locations not with words, but with projects, with results, with construction sites and people employed at work. We got unprecedented financial support from the European Union," emphasized Minister Vladimir Bolea.
After the Q&A session, the motion was put to a vote and the majority of lawmakers voted against it.
According to the parliament's regulations, a simple motion can be initiated by a minimum of 15 deputies and is adopted with the vote of the majority of MPs present.
