Deputy Prime Minister at Crimea Platform Summit: Russia’s aggression affects security and stability of all Europe

Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs Mihai Popșoi reaffirmed in New York the Republic of Moldova’s support for Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, including Crimea, during the sixth edition of Crimea Platform Summit, held on the sidelines of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly.

In his speech, Moldova’s top diplomat condemned the war launched by the Russian Federation against Ukraine, as well as the occupation and attempted annexation of Ukrainian territories.

“The position of the Republic of Moldova is principled and unequivocal: Ukraine’s internationally recognized borders must be respected. Our common objective must be clear: to support Ukraine in restoring its territorial integrity and to ensure that such violations do not happen again,” Mihai Popșoi said.

The minister also highlighted the effects of the war on regional and European security. According to Popșoi, the consequences of the military aggression are being felt in the areas of security, food and energy, as well as in Europe’s economic stability.

“The Republic of Moldova is no exception. Peace cannot be ensured when international law is violated and aggression remains without consequences,” he said.

During the summit, Mihai Popșoi said that the authorities of the Republic of Moldova would continue to support Ukraine. The forms of support highlighted included hosting refugees, facilitating transit, and contributing to the export of Ukrainian grain to international markets.

A Joint Declaration of the participants was also adopted at the meeting, a document supported by the Republic of Moldova.

Crimea Platform is an international format dedicated to discussing the consequences of the occupation of Crimea and reaffirming the principles of Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
