More than 50 UN member states called on Russia for complete, immediate and unconditional ceasefire in Ukraine
The Republic of Moldova, together with more than 50 UN member states, endorsed a joint statement calling on the Russian Federation to implement a complete, immediate and unconditional ceasefire in Ukraine, during a meeting of the UN Security Council dedicated to the situation in that country.
The common position was expressed in a press statement delivered before the Security Council meeting, which was attended by Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs Mihai Popșoi.
The signatory states condemned the escalation of the Russian Federation’s aggression against civilians and civilian infrastructure in Ukraine. They also denounced actions that, according to the statement, endanger the security of neighboring states and maritime safety in the Black Sea region.
The participating countries reaffirmed their support for Ukraine and their commitment to the principles of the UN Charter, including respect for the sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of states.
In the statement, the Russian Federation was called upon to resume negotiations with a view to finding a solution for a just and lasting peace in Ukraine, in accordance with international law.
Later, Mihai Popșoi took part in the meeting of the United Nations Security Council dedicated to the situation in Ukraine.
