Most MPs of Moldova's parliament of 12th legislative period lawyers, economists

Most members of the parliament of the 12th legislative period are lawyers and economists by profession. There are 41 such MPs: 22 with legal education and 19 with economic studies.

Lawyers represent the largest professional category. The parliamentary faction, Action and Solidarity Party (PAS) has 11 MPs with legal studies, the Party of Socialists of Moldova (PSRM) faction has six, the Our Party faction has two, and the Party of Communists of Moldova (PCRM), Alternative, and Democracy at Home factions each have one lawyer.

The second most represented profession among MPs is economist. There are seven economist MPs in PAS faction, while in the factions of PSRM, PCRM and Alternative, there are four MPs each with economic backgrounds.

Additionally, 18 MPs have pedagogical studies. Another nine are engineers by profession, five lawmakers are historians and four are journalists. The composition of the parliament of the 12th legislative period also includes MPs with studies in political science, security, medicine, psychology, management, sociology, arts, agronomy and other fields.

From a geographical perspective, the majority of MPs in the 12th legislative period—over 60 per cent—reside in the municipality of Chisinau. Another 15 MPs are from the northern districts of Moldova: Edinet, Falesti, Drochia, Soroca, Briceni, Sangerei and the municipality of Balti. The central part of the country is represented by 11 MPs, who come from the districts of Ialoveni, Anenii Noi, Calarasi, Nisporeni, Ungheni, Criuleni, Telenesti and Rezina.

In addition, 13 MPs are from the southern districts of the country—Cahul, Causeni, Leova, Cimislia, Cantemir, Stefan Voda—as well as from the Gagauz Territorial Administrative Unit (UTA Gagauzia). In total, the parliament is made up of MPs coming from more than 20 districts.
