The Parliament and the Triumphal Arch in the center of the capital were illuminated this evening in the colors of the American flag on 250 years of independence of the United States of America. The action represents a symbol of friendship and partnership relations between the Republic of Moldova and the USA.
Speaker Igor Grosu noted that 250 years ago, the American people adopted the Declaration of Independence, which laid the foundation for the United States of America and has inspired generations through the values of freedom and democracy.
"Also this year, the Republic of Moldova marks 35 years of independence. During this period, the American people have stood by us. Step by step, we have built roads, modernized schools and kindergartens, expanded access to water and sewerage, and taken important steps to strengthen our energy independence and democratic institutions. For the Republic of Moldova, the United States is a reliable friend who is by our side when we need it most. We thank you for your constant support and for the trust you have placed in the Republic of Moldova. Happy Independence Day to the American people!" Igor Grosu said.
The National Day of the United States of America is celebrated annually on July 4 and marks the adoption of the Declaration of Independence by the Second Continental Congress in 1776, a document through which the 13 British colonies in North America proclaimed their independence from Great Britain and laid the foundations of the United States of America.
The Declaration of Independence, drafted primarily by Thomas Jefferson, enshrines the fundamental principles of the American state, affirming that all people are equal and possess full rights.
