President of Moldovan Central Electoral Commission says claims on rigging of elections undermine electoral institution
President of the Central Electoral Commission (CEC) Angelica Caraman has firmly rejected allegations on a potential rigging of the regular parliamentary elections, scheduled for September 28. She described these allegations as unfounded and dangerous to the reliability of the electoral process.
“Such claims without any evidence pose a real risk, as they deliberately undermine the authority of the institution which organizes the elections,” said Caraman in response to a question on the recent wave of posts questioning the integrity of the electoral process.
According to the CEC head, charges on the rigging of the elections are frequently launched during the electoral period by certain political actors, which try to draw the electoral institution into partisan disputes.
“We will not fall into this trap. We constantly reiterate: we are apolitical and will not be drawn into politicians' games,” Angelica Caraman emphasized.
Caraman pointed out that some political parties, instead of correcting inconsistencies in their candidacy files, chose to blame the Central Electoral Commission, speculating that it acts biasedly.
“This is regrettable. Such practices undermine trust in the electoral authority,” the CEC president stressed.
To combat these suspicions and enhance transparency, the electoral institution continues to actively communicate with the public and involved parties.
“We publish, communicate, explain and reason all our decisions. CEC resolutions are justified. We clearly state why we took a particular decision, which the grounds were. We communicate with all interested parties, organize round tables and debates,” mentioned Caraman.
A concrete example of transparency is the recent publication, for consultation, of the list of potential polling stations due to be opened abroad. The list was drawn up based on proposals on behalf of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAE), considering voter turnout dynamics, data on citizens abroad, geographic distances, and necessary measures to secure the electoral process.
On September 28, 2025, regular parliamentary elections will be held in Moldova. The polls are organized to elect the new composition of Moldova’s parliament for a four-year mandate.
The electoral process is conducted in accordance with current legal provisions and is managed by the Central Electoral Commission (CEC), which ensures the transparent, fair and free organization of the elections.
Citizens eligible to vote are encouraged to look for information from official sources, verify their polling station’s location in advance and actively participate in the elections, thereby contributing to shaping the country's political future.
