Direct flights from Chișinău to destinations in Iceland: Agreement approved by Government
Citizens of the Republic of Moldova will benefit from direct air routes to Iceland. This will be possible after the Government today approved the Agreement between the two states on air services.
The document establishes the regulatory framework for bilateral air services and includes provisions on aviation security, applicable fees, as well as the recognition of certificates of airworthiness and competence.
At the same time, the agreement regulates operating rights, as well as the designation and authorization of airlines. In addition, the agreement will facilitate access to the Icelandic market and generate economic benefits by increasing passenger traffic and strengthening the competitiveness of the national aviation sector.
Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development Vladimir Bolea said at the Government meeting that for the citizens of the Republic of Moldova, this Agreement creates the opportunity to develop new air connections from Chișinău International Airport "Eugen Doga", offers more travel options, and contributes to increasing competitiveness in the air services market.
"The Agreement sets out rules of cooperation between the two parties, in accordance with international standards of safety, quality and civil navigation. The Agreement has already been applied on a provisional basis from the moment of its signing, and by approving this draft we are finalizing the necessary procedures for its entry into force," said Vladimir Bolea.
The Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Moldova and the Government of Iceland on air services was concluded in Chișinău on May 26, 2026.
