Labour Minister: Energy compensation to also be granted in next cold season
The program for providing energy compensation will be continued in the next cold season as well. Minister of Labour and Social Protection Natalia Plugaru made the statement today.
The minister emphasized that the authorities are currently working on finalizing the format of the program for the 2026–2027 winter season and on the criteria for determining the categories of beneficiaries.
“We aim to continue this program. We are now in discussions with our partners and with the Ministry of Finance to decide what format it will have. At the very least, we intend to continue cash payments, as in previous seasons. However, we are now estimating what the criteria will be, which groups will benefit, so that we can make sure we support the people who are most in need. We are also monitoring price developments, we have several scenarios, and closer to the season we will know better what the budget for this program will be and which groups will benefit,” said Minister Natalia Plugaru on the program “Rezoomat”.
For four consecutive years, the Government has granted energy compensation to vulnerable households through the “Aid at the Meter” Program. The support is provided in the form of a monetary payment, which is paid monthly. For this purpose, 1.5 billion lei were allocated from the state budget in 2024, and 2.34 billion lei in 2025.
In the previous cold season, around 622,000 vulnerable families received energy compensation. The financial aid ranged from 500 to 1,000 lei and covered, on average, up to 40% of the bill cost.
