Better conditions for students and teachers: EIB grants 40 million euro loan to modernise 20 schools
A total of 20 educational institutions will be renovated and equipped with modern facilities following the use of a 40 million euro loan granted by the European Investment Bank (EIB). The project on the ratification of the loan agreement was approved today by the Government.
The educational institutions included in the programme will benefit from extensive modernisation works, ranging from thermal insulation of buildings and modernisation of heating systems to the renovation of classrooms, improved accessibility and the creation of safer learning spaces.
Minister of Education and Research Dan Perciun said at the Government meeting that implementation of the project will be launched at the beginning of next year.
According to the project’s explanatory note, the rehabilitation and modernisation of 20 educational institutions in several regions of the Republic of Moldova will contribute to the creation of modern, safe, accessible and inclusive educational environments, aligned with European Union standards and the current needs of students and teaching staff. The planned investments, which also target energy efficiency, digitalisation and the modernisation of educational spaces over an area of more than 200,000 m², will support the reform of the education system, increase the attractiveness of educational institutions and help strengthen social cohesion and educational inclusion, particularly for disadvantaged communities.
The loan will be disbursed in instalments, and the use of the funds will be conditional on the submission of supporting documents and the implementation of eligible expenditures in accordance with the contractual provisions.
