Chisinau, March 21 /MOLDPRES/- The parliamentary committee on national security, defense and public order organized today public consultations to finalize the package of laws on the activity of the Intelligence and Security Service (SIS).
The meeting took place in the context of the recommendations presented by the European Commission for Democracy through Law (Venice Commission). The event was attended by representatives of both state institutions and civil society.
"The Venice Commission's note includes several issues on SIS attributions, security mandate, parliamentary and external control. During these public consultations, we aim to identify solutions to adopt a fair law, which defends the security of the state and does not allow abuses", the head of the National Security, Defense and Public Order Commission, Lilian Carp said.
The draft law on the Intelligence and Security Service aims to ensure the institution's independence. The document will regulate in detail the powers, obligations and rights of the SIS, clearly establishing the categories of facts, risks and threats, which pose a particular danger to national security.
At the same time, the draft Law on counterinformative activity and external informative activity aims to delimit the powers of the SIS and adjust them to the standards of special services in countries with consolidated democracy.
