The international exercise Peace Shield 2026 has started at the National Army Training Center. During the activities, the soldiers of the 22nd Peacekeeping Battalion Blue Helmets, together with carabineers, are being assessed on the execution of actions specific to peacekeeping missions, including providing first aid, patrolling, medical evacuation, convoy and escort operations.
The event was attended by Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the National Army, Colonel Ion Ojog. He highlighted the importance of the exercise for strengthening the operational capabilities of Moldovan troops and for increasing interoperability with international partners.
This year’s evaluation is directly monitored by international observers and evaluators from several countries, including Bosnia and Herzegovina, Azerbaijan, Austria, Armenia, Ukraine, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, Italy, Turkey, France, Norway, Colombia and Georgia, which ensures the transparency and objectivity of the certification process.
The exercise is taking place from 22 June to 4 July at the National Army’s training centers and aims to assess the level of readiness of the units declared under the Operational Capabilities Concept (OCC), as well as to certify them for participation in international peacekeeping missions.
The National Army joined the OCC program in 2007.
