Moldovan cabinet approves national programme on implementing national single emergency calling service 112
Chisinau, 17 February /MOLDPRES/ - The cabinet today approved a national programme on implementation of the national single emergency calling service 112. The move’s goal is to enhance the security and protection of residents in case of appearance of dangers to the life and health of people, integrity of assets.
The working experience of the emergency services proves that, to efficiently provide assistance in emergency situations, the involvement of two or more emergency services is necessary in ten per cent of the cases. The insufficient level of organisation of the interaction between the specialized emergency services from the moment of reception till the providing of help to injured persons represents one of the basic reasons for a high death rate in emergency situations, according to the Information Technology and Communications Ministry.
Presently, one of the numbers 901, 902, 903 and 904 may be called in emergency situations. If necessary, the operator can sent the received message to other emergency services too. Each service has its own rules and ways or registration, monitoring and reporting in terms of the received calls and results of the reacting.
The lack of a single centre for processing emergency calls in Moldova does not allow ensuring a reliable access of the subscribers of electronic communications networks to the emergency calls, which must maintain a maximally possible level of security of the state and residents. The emergency calls 112 will be made according to the principle “single desk”, with the call and the related data due to be transmitted to the control rooms of the specialized emergency services. The 112 service provides for the taking over of emergency calls from citizens and alerting operative specialized emergency teams, in order to ensure an immediate, uniform and unitary reaction, to settle the situations in which the life, integrity or health of the residents, public order, public or private property or the environment are threatened.
The 112 is the single number for emergency calls in the European Union member states.
