Moldovan citizens in Italy invited to discussions on social security agreement application

Moldovan citizens in Italy are invited to discussions with representatives of the National Social Insurance House (CNAS). The dialogue is organized in the context of the entry into force, on 1 September 2025, of the Social Security Agreement between the Republic of Moldova and the Italian Republic.

Thus, CNAS representatives will consult citizens on application of the agreement's provisions, the conditions for exercising pension rights, and the necessary steps to request them.

Starting 1 September 2025, the Agreement between the Republic of Moldova and the Italian Republic on social security will come into effect. It brings multiple benefits for Moldovan citizens who work or have worked in Italy. The document allows for the totalization of contribution periods  carried out in both states for establishing pension rights. Additionally, applications for pensions and other social benefits can be submitted both in the Republic of Moldova and Italy.

The document also provides a framework of social security guarantees for Moldovan migrant workers who work or have worked in Italy or live there, as well as for Italians residing in the Republic of Moldova. Eligible individuals will be able to benefit from age-limit pensions, disability pensions resulting from general conditions, work accidents, or occupational diseases, as well as survivor's pensions.

The provision of social benefits will be conducted based on the principle of proportionality. Thus, each contracting state will cover the portion of the pension corresponding to the contribution period achieved on its territory, according to the applicable national legislation.
